How to make the most of your online study

How to make the most of your online study

The era of online learning was sent into overdrive thanks to COVID-19, and with the introduction of new lockdowns across various Australian states, it’s only becoming more commonplace. Studying online is a great and accessible way to become a personal trainer, but in order to take advantage of it, it’s integral you implement a number of methods that will make studying and retention easier. Here are the best ways to make the most of your online studying:

Hold yourself accountable
The nature of online studying can make it easy to be complacent, but by keeping yourself accountable, you can kick your goals and reap the benefits easily. The easiest way to hold yourself accountable is to set achievable goals (and it’s a great thing to practice, as this will be central to your success as a personal trainer). While you’ll have access to verbal or visual reminders on your course software, it’s simply not the same as studying in-person – so make sure you plan your study and assessments effectively and you’ll be on a roll in no time.

Create a study space
One of the major roadblocks that people have been coming across during lockdown is the fact that their home is not set up perfectly to study or work. While this differs for everyone, creating a regular study space that is solely dedicated to your learning is the perfect way to keep your motivation in check.  Not only will it help you establish a routine, but it will also enable you to switch off and relax after class which is important for overall health.

Get to know your study habits
One of the best parts of online study is the fact that it’s flexible – so make sure you use that to your advantage! If you’re a morning person, cozying up to your syllabus with a morning cup of coffee may be the ideal situation for you. Feel more awake at night? Then study up after dinner and use that brain power wisely! Everyone learns differently, so make sure you take notice of your own habits and figure out how to best set up a study schedule that suits you.

Connect with other student
One of the major downfalls of online study is the lack of connectivity with other students – but it doesn’t have to be this way! Most online courses are built around collaboration, so use that to your advantage and network with other students! Remember, your cohort are likely to be your future colleagues, so it’s a great opportunity to form those relationships early.
